چکیده

Objective Geriatric patients have more complicated appendicitis, which leads to higher morbidity and mortality rates. Sarcopenia has been shown a negative impact on undergoing surgery. This study aims reveal the predictive value of computerized tomography-assessed (CT-assessed) sarcopenia for appendicitis in geriatric patients. Methods One-hundred fifty-four patients’ with acute age, gender, co-morbidities, status, body mass index (BMI) values were analyzed. The skeletal muscle (SMI) related measurements evaluated. Results Fifty-two percent had complicated, 48% uncomplicated appendicitis. There was statistically significant difference between cases regarding BMI, SMI, area (P < 0.05). cutoff point by Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve analysis conducted SMI showed 71% sensitivity 52% specificity = 0.042). Multivariate that comorbidities are significantly associated than sarcopenia. Conclusion lower decreased area, CT-detected an increased risk Comorbidities also important factors. Surgeons should be aware factors leading may cause rates elderly
